A Measure of Cruelty was written by
Steve Passeur, a leading French dramatist of the
between-the-wares generation. He used a stark, terse dialogue
and dealt with sexual matters in bold and savagely ironic ways.
According to
The
Brettish Empire, A Measure of Cruelty concerned a
wealthy older woman who "buys" a young man's affections. (Hiller
was about 53 years old at the time of this production vs.
Jeremy's 32.)
Jeremy chose this performance in order to
be in Birmingham, nearer to his homestead in Berkswell, where
his father was suffering from heart failure. Henry William
Huggins died April 12, 1965
