| Mrs. Dot
1954, BBC
Role: Freddie Perkins "Mrs. Dot: A Farce in Three Acts" was written by W. Somerset Maugham in 1904 and was first produced as a play in 1908. Mrs.
Dot is the wealthy widow of a brewery magnate. She schemes to
disentangle the man she loves, Gerald Halstane, from a hasty and
unsuitable engagement to a young woman named Nellie. Luckily for
Mrs. Dot, Nellie's mother has refused Halstane's permission to
marry Nellie. Also helping Mrs. Dot's cause is a confirmed
bachelor, James Blenkinsop, who throughout the play must pretend to make love to Mrs. Dot, which he does with alternate reluctance and enthusiasm. Freddie
Perkins is the cousin of Mrs. Dot and the sidekick to Blenkinsop.
He eventually is the one to marry Nellie. |
