Synopsis courtesy of RJDoll2:
Beginning with his first appearance in this
film in the infamous speedo scene, Jeremy Brett gives a superb
performance as the tormented Briton, David Malcolm. His suave
portrayal is enough to make any Brettish fan weak in the knees.
The story unfolds as Barbara (Prunella
Ransome), begins searching for her blind sister, Maryann.
Feigning blindness, Barbara meets the reclusive David and
returns with him to his island, L'Isola del Gabbiano. After the
apparent demise of his wife and son, David struggles to rebuild
his life. Following a bizarre occurrence, David is compelled to
inform Barbara that his son -- who also has a penchant for blind
girls -- is not dead.
The burning question in this movie is
whether David is the hero or the villain. Jeremy skillfully
keeps the viewer guessing. High drama ensues in what could be
considered a rather odd film, allowing the multifaceted talents
of Jeremy Brett to shine. The ending is not to be missed.
